Cons to getting my tongue pierced?

I've been seriously considering getting my tongue pierced, but I am now wondering if it is safe, or if it is a bad idea.

My parent's and ex-gf both said it was a bad idea because it was very likely to get infected. The place I would be getting it done is very clean and professional. I went there to get my ear pierced already and will be going back for a tattoo as well (as soon as my ex finishes drawing it).

What are your thoughts?

what the hell.. some people like to have piercings and sh!t.. that's a stupid way to look at it. it's like "how can i make my car faster" - "oh if it was meant to go faster it would have been like that from the factory!!" ya right. i'd get a tongue but it's too common... i'd like to get eyebrow but it would suck when it comes time to remove it. it will leave a scar behind. Tongue is an easy one.. so many people have it. you rarely hear of problems.. and most people like it... go for it!
