My point of view is it depends.. on what you are buying and your intended use.
For example I have a Dell U2711 that I use with my work box. I also game on my workbox some days. For work and general things I love the U27 because of the room I have to work with.
For gaming... my eyes get tired.. I get headaches.
I use a smaller 120Hz Monitor for gaming and personally love it. I don't miss the size at all while gaming.
I wouldn't want to use the smaller monitor while working tho... which is why I say it depends (in my opinion). The only other possible con would be if you had a very small space for it... because a 27 inch monitor .. or at least my Dell is well... quite large.
