Cons of a 27" monitor versus a 24"?

I am looking at two monitors right now, the Benq XL2420T and the Asus VG278H.

The 27" of the Asus are very tempting, although the price is insanely high.
The Benq is much cheaper and it has raving, raving reviews, but is "only" 24".

Now i read that a 27" using the same resolution as a 24" might simply be "too big" and display more pixelization etc...making it look as if overall the Benq would be better?

If using the same resolution the image would look better on the smaller monitor. But your talking 24" vs 27" so I doubt you'd notice anything at all.

Not sure if the 3" is worth almost a GTX 670 tho :)

That was my no.1 concern as well but no, a 27" monitor looks great (to me) even when I sit close to it. Pixelization is a non-issue for me. Check one out in a store (make sure its set up at native res) or better yet buy it to test at home if they have a no hassle return policy. Or you can look for a 27" 2560x1440 screen. One thing is certain, once you have gone 27" or larger, it will be hard going back to anything smaller.

I have both 24" and 27". My eyes get tired on 24" pretty quickly. 27" is very comfortable. Yes, it is little bit more grainy, but not so much noticeable.

Get the 27" I use it for my gaming machine. I'm on a 24" with my main rig and it sucks. I feel I have no room for things.

You would be nuts to buy a crappy little 24 inch when you can afford a 27 inch. It's like asking what the disadvantages of a big peen Or being rich are? Get the 27" and stop asking stupid questions, gaming on a big monitor is Soooooo much more immersive and fun if defies logic that you should ask the question. I mean this in the nicest possible way-get the 27".

i don't know why you guys bother with anything besides a 30" 25x16, With the total number of smaller monitors you'll buy in a life time, a 30" will replace all of them and be awesome for anything.

For the same resolution you'll be look at pixels about 13% bigger. Personally I like having the highest pixel density possible, it gives me the maximum resolution within a particular size of monitor. That makes the pixels as small as possible and tricks my eyes more.

Depending on how close you sit you may find that 27" is bigger than you can reasonably focus on close up. I find on 24" my eyes hunting around the screen(s) in an FPS for possible enemies and the bigger the monitor gets the further you go and the less you see with each focus. Of course conversely the objects are bigger and hence easier to spot.

With 27" you may find you want AA more than you do with 24", just because the increased pixel size makes the pixels show up more clearly. Of course the other consideration is whether the monitor at 27" is any good. Make sure you also compare the colour quality, latency and ghosting on somewhere like tftcentral so you know that all else is roughly equal.

For me the 27" with the same 1920*1200 or 1920*1080 is essentially worthless. It might make sense if you got bad eyesight or sit relatively long away from the screen.

27" also seems like a bastard size. I rather go 30".

It got nothing to do with the ultra best.

Spending more money for a 27" with the same resolution as a 24" doesnt make much sense. Since you wont change the distance view. Pixels just got bigger on the 27", thats all. As I said it makes bigger differnce if you got bad eyesight or sit longer away than average.

Also I would be careful putting the 27" in the millions yet ;)

Is it true that 1920 x 1200 is a better resolution for 27" monitors than 1920 x 1080?

I would say 1920*1200 is a better resolution nomatter the size. Both at home and at work we prefer 1920*1200 for 24" for example. People at work directly demands it. 1920*1080 came from TVs.

The reason is I have a HannsG Hz281 which has a 27.5" monitor and native 1920 x 1200 resolution and I love it for gaming. Obviously not a high resolution monitor but for the price an very nice monitor.

Benq has a .276 pitch. Asus has a .311 pitch.

That said, 24" is the choice.

Has nothing to do with best - 27" 1080p has screen door and massive pixels unless you're vision impaired. I'd take a 24" 1080p any day over it.

Really there is no excuse to buy a 24" or 27" 1080p anything when 1440's S-IPS's can be had for $300 from Korea right now.

Depends on seating distances to be quite honest.

At 2.5-3 feet, the difference between the two is not night/day

I like my 25.5" 1200p monitor, love 16:10 aspect ratio. Looks plenty big enough at my distance and getting a higher resolution makes running games harder.

I do want to try out a 120hz monitor to see what the fuss is about.
