Main focus would be on gaming of course.
I was thinking of the
Gigabyte DS3
C2D E6400
Corsair DDR2 800
Video card?
Case?

check out the anandtech guide to videocards. As for the case, what do you plan on paying for it? Btw, the 6300 is good enough, you can OC it almost the same as the 6400. And you're missing a PSU.

It's overkill, but that's never a problem. For 150, I'd say get a P180 if you want silence. I'm not too familiar with any other "good" cases at that price range.

I also don't think you can do that for 1200. My system cost 1500-1600 and it was using an e6300 with a 7600gt and OCZ ddr2 800

Ahhhh, I'm now considering the G.Skill DDR2 800 2x1GB sticks. Are they worth the price and are they compatible with my DS3?

Compatible? Yes. Its one of the two most common RAM I have seen people using and posting about. The Corsair is the other most common RAM with that mobo. I'm not 100% sure but I think the GSkill are cheaper than the Corsair PC 6400 (800). You would need to check on prices. Prices tend to change from week to week too. Sometimes daily.

Now I know why I never liked the Lian-Li cases. The damn piece of metal that goes from the 5.25" bay in the front to the PSU in the back prevents you from easily installing and uninstalling the optical drives.

I love the Antec SLK3000B. Amazon.com has it for cheaper than provantage.
