I work in a fairly large company and we're looking at our options before ordering new components. We're trying to use up all of our AGP, Socket 478 and DDR stuff. Well it turns out the low end C2D's are cheaper then what we've been ordering for P4's and still faster (unless someone can show me some becnh's that show the P4 2.8 and 3.0's doing better.)
So to cut to the chase, we're looking for some C2D motherboards that aren't too expensive (under $150 preferred) and will be reliable. We don't need all the high end stuff because these will have value graphics cards, single hard drive, no more then 1GB of RAM, etc.
We would like to get a couple in to get set up and see how it all goes with our network (meaning we will probably be using them in shop for whatever we want) and could switch to a better motherboard if they come out soon.
Our other option is to just save money and go for some single core P4's but then we probably wouldn't have motherboards that would be capable of using the C2D's if we eventually switch to them.
What are your thoughts?
