conroe motherboard today

hi,
i've got a friend whos whole computer was killed (well, most of it anyway) and is wondering what motherboard he could get today that would allow him to drop in a conroe when its released.

pretty much, he would want a total overclocking motherboad, no watercooling though, with lots of features. max prie $270 for the board.

also, my question, would this be compatable with kenthsfield? (quad core) when it comes out?

Yes. Check thier CPU support list and use one of those to flash the BIOS and then you can use your Conroe.

The Asus P5W DH boards coming to the US have both 0401 and 0502 BIOS's. It's rumored that 0401 won't support production Conroes but nobody knows for sure since the only Conroes out there are ES. Bios 0502 does support Conroe.

IMHO its stupid for ASUS to ship their flagship Conroe Ready MB with an old BIOS rev.

You can flash the BIOS with any previous generation 775 CPU.

You could also try the hot flash method if you have another board that uses the same BIOS chip.

More of that, "Lets get it out fast now and fix (flash) it later in a patch" mentality thats permeating the PC industry. Personally, i'd wait til Conroe actually launches and then look again at whats availble. The pickings are a bit slim at this point. Lot of manufacturers dont have anything out yet.

hmm, i went with the asus board because i need a computer now, and i got a $30 celeron to hold me over till conroe is out, so ill flash it through that.
