I'm going to be getting a Conroe E6600 once the price balances out when the supply is good enough...

1Are there any good mobo's out already worth picking up that are non-sli? I'm willing to wait if something much better is slated to come out, but it seems that all I hear about coming out are SLI boards (like the nvidia 590 sli)...

I'd go SLI but the cost just doesn't seem worth it to me (unless its for giving an extra boost in a year or so when adding a pairing card is cheaper)

I'm in almost same boat dude. I earlier planned for a pentium D and P5ND2 SLI(a scaled down version of P5N32). Both these mobos are feature packed and good for OCing. Though I'm not gonna OC rightaway but I'll keep it in my future plan,

now am going for an E6600. the dealer suggested me P5B and P5W DH, however the latter seems pretty expensive. P5B has dual PCIE 16x slots, but it has no use as its non-sli. Is there something cheaper with same feature set that of P5B available without extra 16x slot?

As far as the two ASUS mobos go the P5W DH is a bit better IMO. Its a little more stable and has extra features. That also makes it more expensive too. The P5B seems to be a bit more quirky than the P5W DH from everything I have read. The P5W DH is also a better overclocker. Of the two I'd reccomend the P5W DH. If you want something cheaper (and non dual card) then you need to look at FoxConn, MSI, or Gigabyte. Just remember all these Conroe mobos have some type of problem. They are the first revisions for a new chip platform so they aint perfect. We should see a second wave of new mobos hit last week of August or first week of September if the rumors are to be believed.

The Gigabyte DS4 seems to offer a good balance between performance, features and o/c. The current official BIOS addressed many issues and most people are now able to reach 400FSB or more.

I don't know about the Asus offerings, there are some threads about it but normally I skip Asus.

I'm using the P5B Deluxe WIFI, E6600 support right out of the box. Plus with the newest BIOS(507 i believe) you can OC your FSB to 650MHZ if you so desire. Also it runs very cool with minimal case cooling. Ran Sandra burn in module, never went above 40C.
