Hi guys,

My aging agp system isnt going to cut it for vanguard when it comes out, also I want 64bit with dx 10 support from the video card, so i will be needing to upgrade. I can only afford one.
Do I go with a home built conroe e6700 type box or go with a dell e1705 with around 2 gig merom chip and just plug my Dell 24 inch monitor into it while its parked at home. It's a toss up, looking forward to your opinions.

Regards,

DX 10 cards will not be available for a while.
If you get a desktop will it reside at your house or at work?

dell laptops sorta suck for gaming, even the high end ones will over heat and do weird things after awhile. If your really an avid gamer go for the e6600/6700. Don't get me wrong I'm still using a dell latitude and will probably continue to use a latitude until I die, but the fact remains that xps or latitude after about 2 hrs of intense fps action weird things may occur.

if it was me buying right now, e6600 + ab9 pro (abit) clocked to 3.2ghz or so with a nvidia card. I support nvidia because they support linux. Before I was a linux user I supported ATI for my country's economy but I think linux is more important and amd/ati merger screwed canada out of a cool company.

Ok im just ranting...
I'd go for desktop system :)

system will be at home office, with occaisonal weekend lan party. I plan on playing Vanguard which is very heavy on the graphics card and cpu, it will be released nov or so. If you remember what EQ1 played like, you will get an idea of how this game will play. With a 3 gig machine 2 gigs of ram and a 6600gt, ( im in beta) on low setting only getting about 20 fps. thats the story
