Conroe CPU and System Temperatures

Hi Guys,

Sorry if this isn't in the right forum, but i got a few questions about C2D temperatures, just wondering if anyone can shed some light. I'm running E6600 with P5B Deluxe Wifi, no overclocking.

1) In Speedfan and other temp reading softwares, there is usually a reading for CPU and two other readings for the actual cores. I've heard that the CPU temperature is NOT accurate and that I only need to care about the core temperatures. Is that true?

2) My idle temps are 32 System, 37 CPU, 30 for both Cores. My load temps (stressing with TAT) are 35 System, 67 CPU and 60 for both Cores. Are these temperatures OK?

3) According to Speedfan at idle, my System temperature is HIGHER than the core temperatures (even though it's lower than CPU temp). Does this even make any sense? I would think that the Core themselves should be running hotter than the system. Is there something out of whack here? The fact that my system is running hotter than my cores is causing me to think that the system is running too hot...

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi thanks for the to the guide, I read it. But the guide doesn't explain why the tjunction (core) can be lower than tcase (cpu/heat spread). So i can set an offset in speedfan, but why is it by default that core temp, speedfan and tat all report the SAME tjunction (core) temperatures? why is it that i need to have an offset...(especially when this is only applicable for one application)?

Thanks for any help.

the reason you need an offset is because TAT is specifically designed by Intel to stress the processor in the absolute maximum way and therefore generates considerably higher load temperatures than other programs. In addition, it uses the on-die temperature diode for more accurate temperatures, although these temperatures are higher than those recorded by other programs.

I'm trying to say that the temperatures for TAT, CoreTemps and Speedfan for the cores all agree... so I'm not sure why I would need to make any offsets for Speedfan. It's just that the strange thing is that the temperatures for both cores are significantly lower than the cpu temperature... which doesn't make sense to me. The core temperatures can go as low as 25C at idle (while oddly the cpu temp never goes lower than 32C), which seems almost unreasonable to me at stock cooling. If the CPU temp should not be lower than the core temperatures... which is wrong in my readings? The CPU or the Core temperatures?

Thanks for all the help.

Core Temp 0.95 has shown me higher temps than Intel TAT but I HAAAAATE Core Temp....It crashes my comp 50% of the times that I try to start the program.

Ditto. thats why i stick with 0.94 its done fine. I dont like how 95 crashes my system.

And my system is STABLE. 9H + orthos on this setting. So it has to be coretemp.
