Conroe Cooling

Looks like the Tuniq Tower 120 is fairly popular but I really don't like it. What are you guys using to cool your Conroe's?

Where can you even get a Tuniq Tower 120? I have done froogle and other sites but still can't find any. Anyone know of a place?

Oh, I got the Scythe Ninja Plus.

I am starting with the Ninja Scythe and may migrate to water if I think heat is my limiting factor....I dont think it will be though...I think the board will limit be far earlier

Yeah, it seems Conroe runs pretty cool. I'd imagine you will hit a brick wall on the current stream of motherboards long before heat would become an issue.

With the Ninja, do you it's safe to use the silent mode, no fan, on the Conroe processors?

Quite possibly as long as you aren't going to overclock, and you have good case ventilation.

I'm going to use the Ninja for mine as well, and retire the 805 flamethrower.

Ninja's designed for passive. If you want active then Mine or Infinity are better.

I don't think that will even be a problem. I've seen a lot of people on silentpcreview running their A64-systems with only a single fan apart from the one in the PSU and the Ninja on the CPU and since Conroe is even cooler than A64 you should be able to do the same if you design your airflow intelligently (with very little resistance that is).

I'm going to use the Scythe Mine for my Conroe. It's a bit smaller but cools on par with both the Ninja and the Tuniq Tower in the reviews I have seen. And since the fins are more closely spaced it's more suited for being used with a fan than the Ninja - and since I'll be over clocking I want something that can both be silent at idle and deliver good peak performance.

Looks like I'll be putting the Swiftech MCX775-V to the test.

I don't particularly like the "huge" factor of these newer models and their mounting systems SUCK.

I plan on using my XP-90. 😉
I just read Maximum PC's yearly Dream Machine article and it speaks volumes for conroe's low heat output. They used a Core 2 Extreme x6800 stock at 2.93 in their rig with a Zalman CNPS9500-LED to demonstrate the chip's cool nature. Using Nero recode to load both cores at %100 they notice only 3 degrees difference between idle and full load temperatures. They even went as far as unplugging the heatsink's fan and continued to run at full load for hours! :Q Holy Smoke, would you try this on your $1100 chip? After reading this I am sure my XP-90 is up to the task.

I will be using the Noctua NH-U 12 with a 120mm fan (maybe two 120mm fans). I plan on buying a E6600 and OCing it to 3.6 GHz. If I can go higher I will but my goal is 3.6 GHz. This bad boy should be able to handle the load.

I followed what Gary said in a post on here and got the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro, it is a good HS for very cheap, SVC has it for like $26.

Shuttle heatpipe. But until I can get the Shuttle SN37P2, will be using stock cooling on my E6700 with my temporary mobo ASRock 775Dual VSTA.

Using the Zalman 9500. Have to say that Im not as impressed with it as I thought I would be. The way it mounts onto the mobo seems a bit weak to me (2 screw bar thingy) other than that well have to see once I start getting temps back!
