Connectors on the Antec SLK3000B

I have a mess of connectors on my SLK3000B computer case. My motherboard has a place where I can plug these connectors in. The problem is that each connector has two wires. For some, I have no idea which is hot and which is ground. For all the others I have no idea which is positive and which is negative. I did not see anything at Antec's web site. Does any one happen to know what the effect is of plugging in such things as power switch, reset switch, power LED, and speaker connects in backwards? I don't know how the various LEDs and switches work, and I'm afraid a backwards connector could wind up sending 5 volts to ground.

thanks for any help

Power and Reset switches can be plugged in either direction and will work just fine. HDD and Power LEDs can only be plugged in one way or they won't light. It won't hurt them to be plugged in backwards though, so you can just take a stab at the correct orientation and flip them around if they end up backwards.

Yeah, the post by RalfHutter seems right.

Switches dont care which way they're connected (unless they're starange ones with 3 pins, in which case they usually only go in one way).

The LEDs will only work when plugged in the right way, but I've never heard of a case where they will be damaged by the wrong polarity.

The speaker depends on whether it is a piezo-electric or coil type. Generally, coil types can be plugged in either way, but piezo-electrics (usually only 1cm-2cm in size) will sound strange if you connect them backwards. If there is a "+" symbol on one side of the speaker, that'll be the positive wire's side.

Here's a tip. There is often a black or red wire as one of the leads (i know there is a black wire on each of my LEDs and my Speaker). If there is a black it is almost always negative. A red wire is almost always positive, and in computers it is usually a 5V connector (but in cars it is usually 12v...) Anyways, hope that helps.

Yes, the ones to the power, hdd, etc. LEDs only work one way. Usually the colored wire goes to the + pin and the white or black wire goes to ground (though I have occasionally found some LEDs wired backwards). Your front panel header diagram in your mobo manual should show which pin is + and which is - (ground). It won't hurt if you plug them in backwards, they just won't light - so just reverse the connector.

Thank you for the responses. I have determined that for the ASUS A8V Deluxe in the Antec SLK3000B the proper orientation of the LED pin connectors is with the writing facing downwards.
