connectivity problems

I have an older IBM laptop that has wireless capability. Could someone tell me what settings I should have set. I keep losing signal after about 10 minutes. I had a compaq with a wireless card that I didn't have any problems with so I suspect its the settings on this IBM. All help would be appreciated.,
