Hi

I have at home a desktop running Windows XP Pro Sp2. This computer is connected to ADSL gateway (Linksys WAG300N) using wired connection.

I have a laptop computer running Windows XP Home edition which can connect to the above gateway, wireless. So far accessing internet from both computers are Ok.

What I want to do is to access desktop computer files from laptop and vice versa. What are the security concerns. Since my laptop DVD drive has become faulty, I am thinking of sharing the DVD drive on the desktop, so I could use it from laptop. Is it possible? I would also need to share a printer between two computers.

Since laptop has only Windows XP home edition, will its files be less secure? So how do I go about it?

Please advise.

Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings, http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html

As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what it is allowed to be shared.

Vista File and Printer Sharing- http://www.microsoft.com/techn...evaluate/vista_fp.mspx

If your Wireless is secure at WPA or above the Network would be secured.
