Client has 25-30 nodes on a 144kbps DSL (I know, ugh). With people on the web, running their java console apps, etc. DSLReports gives about 2kbps at any given desktop. With everybody kicked off, but the computers still connected, DSLReports gives about 30kbps. With all computers disconnected, but one Win98 machine hooked up directly to the Flowpoint router, DSLReports still gives about 30kbps.

Am I safe in thinking that the problem is not in the office?

BTW, pings and tracerts look pretty good, and packet loss is not a problem, however, with all the web based apps this client runs, the speed issue is causing timeout problems.

Well, actually that sounds correct. Remember that the 144kbps is kilo BITS not kilo BYTES. 8 bits per byte actually means he is really gettins about 240 kbps, which really wouldn't surprise me, since the contracts are written in such a way that with DSL you are gaurentied 144kbps or higher.

It sounds like an ISP problem.

However I would not use any of DSLreports type of On Line measures as a prove.

While only one computer is connected to the Router download a 5MB file from a fast site (IBM, Microsoft etc.)

Assuming that the connection's TCP parameters (MTU etc.) are set correctly for this type of connection.

Internet Explorer should report about 12-15KB (Byte) of average Download if the connection is 155Kb/sec.. If the connection is only 30Kb/sec. you should get a download speed of about 2.5-3.0 KB/sec. (Byte)
