The device in question is a GigaFast Wireless-G Router (WF719-CAPR). You can view it online at Futureshop.ca. (Just do a search for GigaFast.)
I upgraded the firmware very recently (which is handled entirely via IP access through web browser). Everything looks smooth enough. When I am connected, and everything is working, I get very nice (standard for my connection) speeds.
I have four systems connected via CAT5E (two desktops, a laptop, and an Xbox 360). Additionally, I have one laptop connected by wireless.
I never have more than four sources turned on at once, and most often I only have three (Xbox 360 is rarely connected). The problem seems to persist regardless of whether I have three or four sources using the router at the same time, but is worst when I have four.
Here is my best description of the problem:
After a period of use (normally an hour or two) the connection (on all of the systems simultaneously) will start to fail. Speeds will fall off quickly, and browsing the web becomes extremely, extremely slow. Slow to the point of being basically useless.
Interestingly, it seems that the connection never *entirely* breaks. I can still surf the web at like 1/100 speed, taking minutes to load a page. And, I receive no errors, or anything like that (on any system). But, for all purposes, the connection becomes useless every hour or two.
At that point, I always walk downstairs, and power cycle the router. I unplug it from the power source, wait 10-15 seconds, and then plug it back in. It sets back up, and it works fantastically for an hour or so.
And then, again, it breaks down.
What can I do? This isn't ruining my life or anything, but it is pretty damned annoying.
Help?
