Connection Problems

Hi I recently moved back from college and got cable installed again. Instead of letting me use the old modem which seemed to work fine, they gave me a new one that for some reason stops sending data every so often (duration of ~45 sec) and then starts again (Old = Motorola SB5100, New = Terayon TJ715). I can't tell from normal surfing but when I'm gaming I definitely know when it stops transferring data.

My question is:
Is the problem the modem or the connection...or what? (ISP is Comcast if it helps)

Don't know if this is a big deal but the cable tech used the old power cord which outputs 12v/750mA to power the new modem while the cord for the new modem outputs 10v/1200mA...I plugged the appropriate cord in once he left...so the wrong power cord was in for about 15 minutes
