Connection problems with router

Ok I didn't know where else to put this anyways I'm having connection problems with my router I got cable and I got a Belkin wireless g router anyways when I have this thing connected to my pc It gives me connection problems like I can't download stuff or play online,etc... and when Its not connected My internet runs perfect no connection problems what so ever so I was wondering should I tell my roommate to get a new router or can It be something else??? sorry for the question I'm a noob If you need me to be more clear just ask.
 
When you say you cant download stuff or "play online" what exactly are you referring to? It could be the built in router firewall or a port issue. But we need more info to really give you useful info
 
Well I'll try my best to explain I guess I lose my connection for a few then It comes back on so If I was downlaoding something the connection will drop and hence my download stops and as for online play Its ok a connection lost message would pop up then It comes back on and I'm fine Its mainly on my streaming videos and downloads I would lose the connection and The file or video will stop.
