Connection problem Logitech Z-5450 to SB Live

I can only use direct analog 5.1 connection.

Tried both digital SPDIF (optical & coax) and enabled "Enable Digital Output" from SBLive mixer.
The z5450 would not detect any signal from Optical, and it would intermittently detect "stereo" from coax.

The z5450 is working fine with my Set-top-box, optical & coax. So I know it's not the z5450.

Is this a known problem with MSI's built-in SBLive?
Is there a workaround/fix for this?

What am I doing wrong?

You may be better off just sticking with analog anyway.

I'm getting really low level when playing DVD movies, I guess I'll just jack up the volume and try to remember to lower the volume before I switch to other inputs.
I found a lot of users complaining about soundblaster spdif being problematic with some receivers, so that's probably what's happening here.

DVDs are generally a LOT quieter than music/games due to having a lot of dynamic range. I tend to have my system up maybe 15-25dB louder for movies than I do for other material.

If it's just low volume most of the time but still gets loud for loud parts, then it's probably just fine.

You're absolutely right - although I have to crank up the volume higher (from 1/4 to 1/2), it seems to be evently balanced (not clipped).
I watched a DVD last night and confirmed that all channels are firing properly - what a difference than my old 2.1 setup 🙂

My old 2.1 setup was the Z-560 too! It was just too much of a hassle wiring the rear speakers (and lack of center ch), made me use them as a 2.1
I did a swap and I think the Z-560 speakers are still better speakers than the Z-5450 ones.

Nice fish tank, what do you keep? 🙂

That's the old apartment actually and we've since given the fish tank away. We just have two rats now 😀
