Connection keeps dyeing when using Bittorrent

I have a Netgear RP614 router and whenever I download from bittorrent for at least 4+ hours, I'll lose my internet connection. Anyone got any idea what's up? Is it just because there is too much packets coming in from different people that it makes the router lose connection? Any solution to this?

I have the same problem with my D-Link 614+ but I'm not sure if it's the router or OS that's causing the problem. I have to disable the network interface and re-enable it in order to get back up. It doesn't happen all the time but every now and then. It probably has something to do with the large number of connected sockets or something but it still shouldn't happen.

Look to see if there are new firmware updates for your router. I was resetting my Belkin every few hours. I downloaded a new firmware and went for weeks without having to reset it.

what's the deal here? Linksys' routers and Belkin routers both having these problems... updated firmare, with/without using bit torrent.

Are you guys on road runner?

I'm on comcast. I believe I have the latest firmware for my router. Guess I just gotta reset it every now and then.

Make sure you aren't maxing out your upload. If you are, you will have problems. Use Azureus and configure it to limit the upload to something like 10kbps or so.

You can also configure Azureus to only have a specific number of connections going at any given time, in case your router or modem can't handle the large number of connections that bittorrent will generate.

Which is the setting where you can limit the connections in Azureus?

It's possible that on lower end routers BitTorrent can heat up the processor so much that it will shut down.

It doesn't seem to be a problem with the router at all.

I have another machine that I still able to get to the internet thru the router when this one dies, so I think we are barking up the wrong tree here..
