Connection keeps dropping out

Hello all

My cable connection has been dropping out a lot lately. I have a Netgear rp614v3 cable/dsl router with a 4mb/down cable connection. If and when the connection does die, I reboot the router (unplug/replug) and it's back again. Any clue as to what could be going on and how I could go about fixing the problem?

If power cycling the router fixes the connection, I would guess your router is locking up. Do you have any other PCs connected to the router?

I have a similar problem that's been somewhat mysterious. One thing that did help was ensuring that the cable modem was communicating with the cable properly. Log into the cable modem (192.168.100.1 for me) and see what your upstream and downstream power ratings are. I believe they should be around -3 dBmV and 25 dBmV respectively. Our cable modem had abnormal ranges, so we had to correct an issue with the splitter to get them back into spec.
