Connection Keeps Dropping Off

I have a cable modem running to d-link wireless router. I will sometimes lose my internet connection within windows. Everything will appear to be connected and running on both the modem and router, also task manager shows me still connected. The only way to solve the problem is to bypass the modem and re-establish the connection or restart the computer. My question is wether or not it sounds like a hardware problem or a windows problem.

I would eliminate the router first to see if the problem still persists to rule it out. I would then replace the network card if there is still a problem.

t has to be the router, because when I go strat from the modem I don't seem to have any drop off problems. The question is what route to go to troubleshoot. I could reset the router and start from scratch, swap out the cable, who knows.

What router do you have? Do you use P2P? Some consumer routers lose connection under heavy load, this is like the most common problem i see these days.

Instead of doing all that, simply pull the plug from the D-link ruoter and plug it in again.
It should get your connection going again. Works for me!

I think you're right about the P2P, I had forgotten about that. Also, It also works when I unplug the router and plug it back in, so that's a good sign it's the P2P.
