Ok here goes..
When I go to bed at night I get all kinds of crazy ideas because im bored and im waiting to fall asleep
, when I think up something that I think is great I say to myself "ok, I gotta remember this when I wake up so I can tell my friends" but when I do wake up I ALWAYS forget what those crazy ideas were.
So I decided to just write them down and post them here for some reason.
Ok before I start, I have to give credit to many authors: Liska and Mesner, and Adler as most of the stuff here is actually their thoughts not mine, the only thing here that is mine are the actual connection between the movie "The Matrix" and Capitalism.
Please also note that these are my OPINIONS so before you get your panties in a knot please don't flame me
Ok first I will define what Capitalism is and then I will make the connection to "The Matrix"
Capitalism
Ok, think about capitalism for a second, what does it allow us to do? Here is my dictionary definition: Capitalism allows individuals to pursue the goal of material wealth by means of financial success. Of course not everyone achieves this goal; however this is the goal of society: our parents, media, and education all teach us to "get a good education and get a good job" but of course many do not get to this goal.
So how do you get financial success? Through work; work essentially reduces you to physical, and mental functions, it doesn't matter if you work at an office or a factory, there is no "emotion" at work people are required to follow rules and perform tasks.
So is this good or bad? This is where the opinion comes in so brace yourself: In order for Capitalism to function, every participant?s primary goal is to make money, lots of it. In fact you have to keep making more money and never stop. People always want more money, more stuff, a better video card, a better TV, a promotion, a raise - never be satisfied with what you have. Your parents, advertising, and school teachers will not say "be happy with what you have" this idea often has negative associations i.e. it means you staying in one spot and not moving. (generally speaking, I know this doesn't always apply)
But what is the purpose of life? Is it to make lots of money and to keep making money and never stop??? This has bad side effects: companies embezzle people commit fraud in other words white collar crime. And for those poor people, they can never achieve material wealth so they resort to crime to achieve that goal. SHOULDNT THE PURPOSE OF LIFE BE SELF FULLFILMENT?? What gives you more self fulfillment: 1) helping feed and clothe victims of a tragedy, or 2) working overtime at the office so you can get a spanking new pair of 7800GTX's? Capitalism only benefits capitalists, those who are in power: CEOs, stock holders, certain people in government; mostly corporations and the elite upper class. In the meantime we think we are doing something that makes us happy, we think material wealth will make us happy, but it doesn't because the desire never ends, we constantly want more, so we are never happy because our desire is never satiated.
In other words, capitalism functions by making us believe that we should work for the purpose of making lots of money and money will make us happy, and not by spending time with family and by helping others, which is what will REALLY make us happy.
If you are reading this far im impressed
Connection to The Matrix
Ok so what the hell does this have to do with the Matrix? Well the Matrix functions by controlling human beings so that the Machines can harness the energy generated by the human body. The Matrix tricks us into thinking that everything is a-okay, that this is what the world should be like and no change is necessary. Capitalism functions in the same manner: The belief that we must get a good education and work to keep making lots of money is a way for Capitalists to generate wealth from our work. They exploit our minds and bodies in work, much like the machines exploit the biological function of the human body.
It?s important to note that you are born in the matrix, in other words we are told from very early child hood that hard works come with a big pay out, and that is the purpose of life. Our minds are exploited since birth by capitalist i.e. the machines.
Spending more time with family, doing work for no pay are not things that are emphasized in capitalist society in fact quite the opposite, we probably spend less time with our family and most of us do no volunteer work because we are to busy making money.
So you can say the Neo is the ultimate humanist, he is the one to free us from the clutches of the capitalist machine, to go back to a life that allows us to make more human connections, work is to help others in need and not to make money. SO GO CALL YOUR GRANDMA!!!
