Easiest solution is to get a VGA adapter off Monoprice. Should be around $10. Then you'll have your choice of digital out or RCA. You will still running at 1080p for video, but it will be an analog signal rather than digital.

That is what you want, then you will have the red / white plugs available to plug in to your speakers, if you have a regular 2.1 adapter get this

and this

now your speakers will play out the computer speakers. You can also optionally get a 3.5mm Y jack so you can have your pc speakers and 360 speakers running at the same time so you never have to worry about switching the plug when you want to game.

You for sure need to get the first item he linked. What is your audio setup? Whether or not you need the 2nd and 3rd items he linked depends on your answer.

I have a 6 speaker with receiver stereo setup. I use a 15 foot cable that has a red-white rca jacks to headphone jack setup that runs from my receiver to my audio port on my computer.

So your speakers output to a stereo 3.5mm male plug (the plug that almost all computers take)? Then all you need is the first cable and the third cable.

Damn, had I only known that monoprice had all these cables last year. I would've saved myself $40.

Ive been trying to figure out how this is going to work and decided I would upload a picture of how my setup is now and see if I can get some clarity.

heres the link:

So Thats how Im set up and I included if I got the first item the xbox 360 vga cable. From there on I need help. Also I wanted to note that the xbox, computer and monitor, are within a foot of each other but the stereo is about 10-15 feet away.

If you are hooking up the Xbox to a receiver, then bypass those adapters and pick up the VGA cable and a Toslink cable for audio.

Hmm, I see the situation you have there. One way is just to run a long RCA cable to where you have your "audio to RCA adapter." When you want to play your Xbox, manually switch over to the Xbox out, and when you're done, manually switch over to the PC out. I don't know how feasible that is.

Here's another possible solution:

1.) Put an RCA to 2xRCA splitter where you have your "audio to RCA adapter."
2.) Run (long) RCA cables from the Xbox "RCA Jacks" to one of the split connectors.
3.) Put your audio to RCA adapter on the other split connectors and connect to your PC.

The problem with that is I don't know if an RCA to 2xRCA splitter actually exists. And, depending on the type you get, you may have to shut off your PC whenever you use your Xbox to avoid interfering signals.

To follow up on DayLaPaul, your audio system is hooked up through a receiver? If that is the case the receiver can act as your switch/splitter. Hook up your Xbox via RCA to, say, "AUDIO IN 1," and your PC as currently set up to "AUDIO IN 2." And when you switch between the two devices press a button on your receiver to switch to the appropriate input.

How would I connect a Toslink cable to my xbox?

It seems like the simplest solution would be to run another cable with the same rca adapters (one on xbox end and one on receiver end), but If theres a better way I'm all for it. I'm a visual guy so I'm trying to figure all this out.

it has multi channel input, audio/video input, digital input (coaxial and optical), and component

lots of ports are unused, right now I just use the front v aux for xbox sound with my tv and the back multi channel (red/white) jacks from my soundcard on my cpu.

Well, as long as you have multiple RCA ins, just hook your Xbox up to another RCA in. If not, get the appropriate adapter. The Xbox VGA cable linked above has RCA outs: your Xbox will automatically output video through the HDMI and audio through the RCA.

Why can't you continue using the front connector (on your receiver) for the Xbox?

After I get the VGA adapter for the 360 I can plug the 360 into another input, but I don't have that yet. When I do have it, the RCA jacks still wont reach the receiver from the xbox. I guess I could run another cable straight from the xbox rca jacks to another input but I was trying to do this with the least amount of cables and adapters possible.

Man I'm super confused. This shouldn't be this difficult. The main problem is getting the red and white rca jacks back across the room to the receiver. So that's my question. How should I do that ?

Also something I just thought about. I have HDMI on the monitor and and HDMI cable. I could use the HDMI Cable for video. Are there any adapters that would make it so I could run audio from an HDMI cable to my stereo?
