I've been googling without much success and was wondering if anyone knows of a way to use a USB scanner over the network. A device similiar to a Dlink printserver or something would be cool, or whatever anyone can think of.

What do you want it to do? Share scans with rest of the network? In that case make scanner program save things to a folder and share that folder...
If all else fails you may try VNC or Remote Desktop.

Basically I just don't want to have to run a cable across the room so was hoping there would be some way to connect it to my switch. If nothing else it's next to my server and I can just RDP into that to scan but it would be nice if I didn't have to.

yup, the problem with scanners is you have to walk there anyways to put the document in first.
perhaps some all in one printer/scanner devices have sharing capabilities?
