drivers are installed, onboard network card is showing up, but i cant get online. driving me nuts. i know it is something simple, but don't know what. im using a linksys router, and i am hooked up with an ethernet cable. the computer i am on now is using the same cord i was trying on the new machine and it works fine on here. im gonna kick myself when i figure it out...

Firstly, can you ping yourself:
START
RUN
type 'cmd' a little window opens.
Climb into the window and type 'ping 127.0.0.1'
What happens? Does it say 'time out error' or does it say success.
If successful, can you 'ping www.bbc.co.uk'.
What happens now?

Is the little orange and green light flashing on the back of the NIC?

Is it plugged in properly - yes it does happen where it didn't quite click in right, especially for an older cable.

Are there any '!' in Device Manager?

On the router option/configuration, are you sure you have got the correct username and password - I made a mistake by swapping a . for a , it took me a day to find it!

What does the router show? - Does it show a computer connected by lighting up the liddle LED?
Does that flash at all when you do the pings?
