Connecting to C$ or remotely using Computer Management on a PC...

Entity

Lifer
Anyone know what is required for this? I've got two PCs, side by side, that appear to be running all of the same services, more or less. I can't, for the life of me, figure out why I can't acces C$ or use computer management to remotely manage services, etc., on PC#2. It all works fine on PC#1.

I need to be able to remotely restart services on PC#2 as well as PC#1, but for some reason, it's not happening.

Services - PC#1
Services - PC#2

Both computers are on static IP addresses. The error I get when trying to manage PC#2 is:

Computer \\Address cannot be managed. The network path cannot be found.

Choose 'Connect to another computer' from the Action menu to manage a different computer.

Any ideas? 🙁

do you have "File and Printer sharing for Microsoft Networks" installed. Is the c: drive shared as c$?

Is that required for computer management? That's the more important of the two things; I really don't care about the C$, but the problems seem to be related.

You cannot connect to a machine with Computer Management without File and Printer Sharing. Computer Management connects to the IPC$ hidden share. Without File and Printer Sharing that share is not created. You can't create the share manually either.

are you using the same login names and passwords on each box? make sure the name has admin rights on both boxes.

too access c$, the user has to have admin rights.

Yeah, it's a domain, and I'm logging in with one of the domain admins (me). 😀

That is probably it. I'll get back to you in a bit. 😉
