Hello,
I am new to this forum and was wondering if someone could help me out. I recently graduated from college and am trying to bring back some "Dead Brain Cells".
Here is my situation:
The good
Two weeks ago the store I work for went live with our new Point of Sale System Successfully!! I couldnt sleep the night before go live cause I was soooo excited for the tear down and setup.
We have a 5 workstations for our point of sale connected to 2 servers throgh a 16 port LinkSys Hub. 1 of those workstations is from our DSL netowork (call him Computer A)
No problems here.
The Bad.
Computer A was part of our 4 user DSL network. The Router / Switch is a Netgear FVS318 (Firewall, Router Switch).
I would like to make Computer A and only computer A communicate to the outside world without changing its workgroup name and setting up the DHCP all the time, plus be on the Point of Sale network.
Steps I have done so far:
I have made a cable (Non crossover), connecting both networks together.
The Computer A was a member of a workgroup called "Workgroup" (Now its under the POS workgroup).
IP address was obtained automatically along with an automatic DNS BEFORE it was connected to the pos network. Now it has a static address of 192.168.1.106, no DNS, etc.
Would it be easier to run a cable connecting the two networks together, or am I better off adding a 2nd network card to Computer A, and setting up specific tcp/ip settings.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I am sorry for the long post, but I wanted to provide as much info as possible.
Thank you,
Since
