Connecting my two comps

I have two comps at home that I want to connect to each other. Both have network cards with tp and coaxial connections, and I was wondering if I can use either of these connections to hook up the comps directly to each other without having to use a hub or something in between? Need to know before I run off and buy cables.

This is a Twisted Pair cable w/RJ45 jacks where the wires are actually &quot;crossed-over&quot; so that the individual wires have the same connection on both jacks (as opposed to &quot;mirror-image&quot; like normal cables). If you look at both jacks of a crossover cable (if they have clear jacks), you'll see that the color of the wire are identical if you place them side-by-side.
You could also use coax cable with terminators on each end, but this will be more expensive and less reliable. I find that coax setups are much more prone to problems if the cables are moved around at all.
 
uh, patch cable it the one that is the same on both ends, crossover has 2 pairs switched, the send and recieve pairs.
 
Doh! Yeah hans, you're right. I got the names switched with the explanations. Up waaay to late last night fooling around with my new Radeon LE...
