So I am worry about wifi(s) in generally intercepting info from apps such as facebook/banks.

Is there anyway that I don't have those apps transmit info.. Like when they give you notifications and stuff.

I think they call it push?

I don't think there is a master, turn off all notifications, switch. But you can go into the Notification Center in Settings and toggle off notifications for each app or for apps you are concerned about.

Turning off notifications only does what it says, data is still transmitting.

I'm assuming OP means one of two things. Either he just wants notifications off which can be done individually in the Notification Center or all at once via Do Not Disturb toggle, or he's worried about the actual security of the network. I don't have Facebook so I'm not sure about it, but there must some kind of setting that disables push updates. And I don't believe banking apps use account sync much.

well, if the app is designed properly (using SSL / encryption for all communication), then it won't matter if the network is secure or not (as long as you don't install someone else's root cert on your phone - some business wifi require their employees to do it)

but you don't know if it's designed properly (unless you decompile it, and it's still possible for the app to leak information through loopholes/improper implementation)

I won't use it but those apps constantly stream information right? I mean they automatically send notifications.

Banking apps don't send any notifications, you login/logout and that's it.
Facebook does send notification, and with faceniff you can basically look through someones account.
