Hi,
I have the 2902A SCSI interface for a couple of years. I've been using it to
connect my internal Teac CDR55S CD writer. I had no problem using it until today.
I wanted to connect my Akai S2000 sampler (external device) to the interface. In
the 2902's manual there's a section regarding using both internal & external
devices. As instructed by the manual, I removed the 3 capacitors from the
interface. I connected the sampler, and it worked fine. Then I discovered the Teac
drive isn't responding. The computer would just freeze each time I try to open "My
Computer", or the Windows Explorer. I tried several times, but with no success. I
also tried various drivers (3.02.2, 3.03).
The strange thing, is that the sampler works, but the Teac drive doesn't. I tried
accessing the drive after reinstalling the capacitors, but witnessed the same
behaviour- the computer just stopped responding.
Some more important information:
1. I make it a habit to backup my system before installing new hardware. Therefore,
I made a Ghost of my system before attempting to install the interface. After
failing, I used the backup before each additional try, hence every try was on a
clean system.
2. The system was just installed after a HD format. The only software is Win98 &
ATI drivers. Like I said- a very clean system.
3. The cable connecting the sampler to the interface is a standard 25-to-25 pin
SCSI cable, 2 meters long.
4. The Teac drive is terminated properly, as it's the last SCSI device in the
internal chain. The Akai sampler is terminated by default.
5. The devices have different SCSI ID's set- the sampler's SCSI ID's 5, and the
Teac's 2. I even went further, and tried different SCSI ID settings on the Teac- 0,
1, 2, 3, 4, 6- nothing. Still the same.
6. Here's the strangest thing: I have a friend with a similar configuration. Same SCSI interface & sampler. He didn't even remove the capacitors, and his SCSI drive works great (Yamaha x4x4x16 CD Writer).
I think that's all the information I can give you regarding this issue.
I'm very disappointed from all these problems- the interface was very easy to install, and I didn't think adding an external device would be such a pain.
TIA
