Connecting external hd and external dvd recorder to laptop?

My laptop (sony vaio) has one firewire and 2 usb 1 ports. I'd like to be able to hook up an external hd and a dvd recorder to the laptop at the same time. My external had is firewire. I haven't gotten an external enclosure for the dvd recorder yet. Is there some sort of accessory to turn the only firewire port into two so i can use both at the same time? I guess there's nothing that can be done about the usb 1 ports for this use. I'm looking for an inexpensive way to do this. thanks

Buy a cheap usb2 pccard? Does it have any pccard slots?

Don't FireWire devices usually daisy chain together? If your current enclosure only has one FireWire port, then you could probably buy an enclosure for your DVD burner that has a pass through FireWire port.

Check out the ADS PYRO enclosures. One of theirs is listed as having a firewire pass through port.
