Connecting DVD and CDRW

This is my first time building a computer by myself and I've been having problems trying to connect to drives at the same time. Can someone guide me through this please? Such as what should be master/slave, how to connect the IDE cables/jumpers, etc. I'd really appreciate any help. It would be a waste if I could only use one drive at a time.
