I have a 37 inch VIZIO LCD HDTV. It has a plethora of connection options.. among them HMDI. According to VIZIO themselves, other sources, and general common sense, HDMI offers the highest picture quality. Logic then dictates that given my 9800xt's DVI out... I should purchase a DVI to HDMI cable and simply plug it in to the TV for the highest picture quality.
However, I visited VIZIO's website and here is what they wrote:
"Computer: 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1366x768 thru VGA/RGB or 640x480 thru HDMI"
What am I missing here? How can VGA offer a higher picture quality than HDMI?

Thoughts? Any additional information would be more than welcome.

Thanks

Unfortunately for most HDTVs, HDMI does not support non standard resolutions, such as your panels native resolution of 1366x768. The best it can probably do is 1280x720, and the internal scaler on the TV will just bring it to 1366x768.

Whereas with VGA, you can directly set the resolution to 1366x768 (or 1360x768 most likely), to get 1:1 pixel mapping.

The disadvantage is that you lose HDCP with HDMI, but you do get crisper non scaled images.

Very few TVs apparently accept 1360x768 over HDMI, so look around AVSForum for that, there was a thread for it somewhere.

Also, check the thread at AVS for your specific TV, there might be something about that too.

Would you happen to have a link to that thread by any chance? The site seems to lack a search function... and the database vast.

So let me get this straight: my panels' native resolution of 1366x768 is NON standard? And HDMI will probably not support that.... though it will get close and the internal scaler will adjust it? Doesn't that mean that it does support it?

And what is one to one pixel mapping? and HDCP?

So bottom line - what do you recommend I do?

Forgive my ignorance...

Thanks for the help, it's much appreciated.
