I just hooked up a networked blu ray player (Panasonic DMP-BDT215)and am having problems connecting it to my Win 7 PC on the LAN to stream videos and music. I've tried both the DLNA client and the Network drive option. Both are documented poorly and I can't get them to work.

- Can see the net from player and see it from the router.
- Have turned off Windows firewall on my PC for the homegroup

There seem to be two options

DLNA client - It doesn't see my PC, though it saw my wife's PC briefly, but could not connect to it. All PCs are on the same homegroup
Network drive. It gives me a space to enter the IP address and folder name for the shared video foler on my PC, but doesn't give me the syntax (forward slashes? Back slashes? underscores for spaces (my_video?)

Anyone BTDT?

Thanks

1. Add your media folders to the "Videos Library" and "Music Library"
2. Open Windows Media Player, click on "Stream" and select "Automatically allow devices to play my media..."

This will enable DLNA... Might also want to check if there's a firmware update for your Panasonic player.

I verified that I had turned on all of the appropriate toggles to activate DLNA sharing on the network, but my PC still doesn't see the BD player when I'm setting up sharing on the network. I've read that some of the Panny Bd players are not completely DLNA compliant. I'll try to dig something out of Panasonic support, though i hear very mixed reviews of their abilities around networking. Common solution on the Amazon Boards was to return the unit and buy an LG.

I assume the original poster has already moved on from this problem but somebody else may find this thread via Google so I thought I would share my solution for the problem since I also have a Panasonic DMP-BDT215 Blu-ray player.

When I originally used the Blu-ray player to try to play music on my home network, the Blu-ray player would show me a list of the Windows 7 computers on my network but when I tried to access one of them, it gave me an error message suggesting there was a network problem. To resolve it, this is what I did.

  • Open Control Panel on the Windows 7 computer that has the library on it you want to access from the Blu-ray player.
  • Click on Choose Homegroup and Sharing Options.
  • Click on Change Advanced Sharing Options.
  • Scroll down to Media Streaming and then click on Media Streaming Options.
  • Choose Show Devices on Local Network, then click on Allow All.
  • Click on OK
Return to the Blu-ray player and now when you choose the Windows 7 computer you want to access, it will proceed by allowing you to access different parts of your library (music, videos, etc.).

Good luck.

Yeah, that works for my Sony, but we have a lot of Samsung equipment inthe house with its quirky allshare video access. I can only use allshare by direct linking to the TV with my computer. No access Via LAN. I can also plug in a USB drive and play videos, but I can not access videos on that same hard drive if it hangs off a router that is recognized by DLNA players. quirky behavior ...
