Here we go.. I'm in the middle of my first build, am the motherboard manual says to connect the DVD reader audio plug to the motherboard karajan module (DFI). I am planning on using a discrete solution for my audio (creative X-fi)... so should I try to locate that plug on the audio card, or just use to karajan module for the connection even if I am using an audio card?

You don't need to plug in a cable for that. The audio data can be sent through the data cable.

Damn.. the moment I posted I knew you were going to come with a solution.. :)
So, I just forget about audio plugs... the IDE cable will take care of everything.. Is that correct?

Right. I don't have anything other than the IDE cable connected to my drive and it works fine.

What about the Mic and headphones front panel connections? I know the X-Fi has no port (shame!)... would it be possible to connect those ports to the mobo module and then use the X-fi for everything else?

Or using a sound card automatically makes impossible any use of the Karajan module on the motherboard?

I know some people have dual soundcards set up, I'm not sure about integrated and X-Fi at the same time though.

Headfi.org might have more info for you on it as I think dual sound devices are more widespread over there.
