Connecting a USB scanner to two computers...Please help...

Hey you all, trying to resolve this issue quickly. Basically, I have two computers next to each other and one of them has a HP USB scanner. I want the other computer to be able to use it also. These computers are here at work, because if I was at home of course I would just disconnect it and reconnect to the other computer - LOL But this has to be "hands-free" and both computers able to use it without swapping cables, etc.... I thought about a USB hub, but that wouldn't help since only one computer will see it? Please correct me if I am wrong. I need help!!!

Thanks a bunch in advance!!!

The only way I can think of to do that is to create a network with the two computers and make the scanner a network shared device.

But when you consider the cost of two network interface cards, cabling, and aggitta of setup, the best solution might just be a second scanner so each computer has one. Scanners are very cheap these days.

Thanks for the reply 🙂 The computers are on a network. How would I make it a shared device? I know how to do the printers but not the scanners. Thanks a lot!

Thanks for the info you all. It might be better to buy a smaller, cheap scanner for the second computer. You all are great! 🙂

many hp scanners can easily configured at networks scanners - your HP software for the scanner should have instructions - otherwise go to the hp site.
