Just purchased a Jetway 939GT4-SLI (nForce4)motherboard and have everything setup to start loading windows XP onto it.
Here some upfront info:
(1) IDE drive on IDE2 channel (master) - DVDROM drive
(1) SATA hard drive Seagate 160GB
Boot order is floppy, CDROM, hard drive in that order. When the SATA drive is connected, it is recgonized by the BIOS.
When the SATA hard drive is disconnected the system after POST goes quickly to the DVDROM drive where windows XP install CD is and loads quickly. From boot to getting to point to bring up drive list (which there are non obviously) takes less than two minutes tops.
After connecting the SATA drive the following happens. After POST....the system takes a good 60 seconds before it brings up the booting from CDROM message. Then few seconds later the single line of "Starting windows setup" comes up and goes leaving a blank screen for a few minutes before the blue Windows Setup splash screen to come up. Then after the spash screen comes up it takes another minute or two before setup starts reading the base files off the CDROM drive. It then says can not detect hard drives and to hit 'S' to load drives from floppy. I use the floppy and select both the NVIDIA drivers since both are listed as required. Then I tell windows setup to continue. Small pause while it loads up a few more drivers from the CDROM. Then it sits there for another 2+ minutes and right when I expect to get the screen asking if this is a install or rebuild....the system reboots.
Edit 1:
The windows install process was done with and without using the F6 option to install the NVIDIA drivers. Also I do believe that the hard drive might of received some nasty jolts in shipping. Every once in a while I hard the hard drive give off a series of clicks about 1 second apart.
