Connecting a cable modem through the USB port?

The guys from the cable company say I do not need a LAN card and that they will connect the cable modem to the USB port.Is this a potential problem and is it better if I buy a LAN card and connect the modem to it?
Thanks in advance.

Don't get USB it is usually slow, and it can not be used with any of the Cable/DSL Home Routers.

the cable modem should have both usb and ethernet ports,
they should give you a free network card,
whatever, don't use usb connection, it sucks at all.
