connecting a 3" by 3" case fan

right now its held on by a thick string through all four holes and it seems ok for now, although i cant close my case all the way and is this safe?. i tried hot glue-gunning which came apart, then my case type screws r not long enough to fit, any other ideas of how to connect this securely? what kind of screws / nuts do i use? thx..

for big fans, assuming holes already exist, i just took take the fan to home depot / lowes and get a run-of-the mill bolt that fits it and is long enough to go through both the case and the fan..then i put on 1 lock washer followed by the correct size nut...holds up like a champ (the lock washer is the key)

i've found a #8 bolt approx. 2 inches long tends to work pretty well for most fans...at least i THINK that's the size i used
