I have this NEC powermate 2000 all in one desktop computer that uses laptop/notebook HDD and DVD It only has a 6gb Hdd and the Bios is too old so it will not recognize USB on boot. I want to find out if their exists some type of connector to connect a standard Desktop HDD to this machine. As I mentioned the bios is old so USB enclosure type solutions while they work under windows will not work on boot up. I know I will have to power the HDD up externaly. All I found is connectors that let you connect a notebook HDD to desktop IDE I need something that does the opposite.
Thanks in advance for your help

I have a device that should work. I got it about 6 years ago to use with a laptop before USB to use an external IDE HDD. It is called "Bullet Drive Express," and was made by Road Warrior. Here is a picture I just took:

Bullet

It consists of a PCMCIA to IDE adapter, a standard IDE cable with a 40 pin connector, and a poer cable from the laptop's PS/2 port. The housing accepts any 2.5" HDD. It comes with a floppy disk of drivers, but with Win XP needs no extra drivers.

I don't know if it is still available. I would search E-Bay for it. Here is an article on it dated 2001:

RW

OK, this is even more generic and on E-Bay now:

PCMCIA

I searched for PCMCIA IDE on E-Bay.
