Connecting 2 XP's & a 98se

hey, trying to set up my 3 computers to talk to each other. its 2 xp's and 1 98se. also want to share a printer connected to XP-1

i have all three connected to a 10/100 5 port hub (yes, just a hub). my cable moderm is also connected to the hub.

why type of network is that?

a) This computer connects to the internet thru a residential gateway or thur another computer on my network

b) This computer connects to the internet directly or thru a network hub. Other computers on my network also connect to the internet directly or th rough a hub.

i've tried connecting them before, but had nothing but problems. also, the only firewall is the native XP firewall's on the XP.

UPDATE:

ran the wizard and used the second choice (conects thru a hub). ran it on both XP's and 98se. none see each other. 98se can not connect to the internet now. can not run winipcfg anymore. wtf?

EDIT: the 2 XP's can ping each other.

Do not run any wizard.

Configure manully Win98 Sharing: Networking and sharing between computers.

And WinXP Sharing: Sharing Disk Drives Between Computers on Windows Network.

And you would be OK.

meh, already ran the wizards... harmfull or won't matter?

The wizard does auto config. of the same settings that you do manully. In most cases once you go and manually set it corrcetly it would work well.

ok, so after running the xp cd on the 98se computer... i can't connec to the internet anymore. can't even run winipcfg now. what gives?

EDIT: on the 98se machine, i get the "The page cannot be displayed" in the Explorer window (tryin to connect to the internet) and when i try to run winipcfg, i get "FatalError: Cannot read IP Configiration".
