I connected my NonCompaq computer to an older Compaq mv520 moniter. I didn't think there would be any trouble. A moniter is a moniter. At first, it seemed to work but after a few minutes it shut down the whole computer. I tried to restart and though the power came on, nothing came up on the moniter. I then went back to my Sony moniter which has had a green tint issue but was working fine just 10 minutes before that and now nothing would come up on that moniter either. I can't get anything to come up on the moniter. Not safe mode, not bios, not anything. The only thing I get when I power on is 1 long beep code and 3 short beeps. I think that means something to do with the video card. It is an ASUS SIS 961 motherboard.
I put in an older ATI all in wonder video card and that didn't work either. Can anyone give me an idea what happened? Did the moniter somehow short out the video card or motherboard or something? Is the computer completely hosed?
I guess I'll try to put in a backup hard drive this weekend but I don't think the hard drive is the problem? What should I do?
