I was able to fine the Connect3D X800XL for $229 at TigerDirect. The X800XL for this price is EXACTLY what I'm looking for...but I'm not sure about TigerDirect OR Connect3D. Would I regret this purchase later? Can I trust Connect3D or TigerDirect?

BTW, I'm looking to run a 2005FPW with this card, play HL2, FEAR, possibly some Doom 3 and UT2k4 altho I'm sure this card has no problem with those games.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Cos I forget the '5' key comes after the '4' key. Also clarified my Q a bit.

i cant comment on Tigerdirect

but can on connect 3d

they make decent cards in my view, i have a connect 3d 9500pro and its still going strong (got it when it came out) and it overclocks like a demon! they are very basic in terms of packaging though

you get a cd with out dated drivers (no worries there) and a few cables and a manual, and the card and thats about it, almost OEM

nice monitor choice, the X800XL shouldnt have problems playing HL2, and UT2004 (there is no 2005) at the native res

with doom3 you may have to turn the res down a touch/or turn the detail down ( i believe u can run in a boxed off area on that monitor ie if u run 800x600, then it doesnt stretch to fit, it just lights up 800x600 pixels....not sure on this though)

and it will struggle to play FEAR at native res with high settings

best for that card in FEAR will be 10x7 and max settings, no soft shadows, light AA and AF, thats what i find comfortable with my 6800GT

well $229 is a great deal. regarding Tigerdirect they took about 2 weeks to deliver a card i had purchased off them so dont expect quick shipping but service is very reliable. Connect3d is a good company and OCs very well.

Thanks for the comments on Connect3D. I ordered one from Tigerdirect.ca and strange thing is, they took several days to confirm that the card was shipped. Now, I see I don't even have a tracking number. I clcked on their web site for them to send me an update via email and I checked my email a few moments later, no email.

Oh well, it's my fourth order from Tigerdirect.ca this year.

Connect3D is good in my books. I've bought several of their 9xxx products before, and all of em are still running like champs 2-3 years later.

The jury is still out on F.E.A.R. The single player demo doesn't perform very well on higher-end cards, let alone the x800XL. I've got an ATI x800XL and F.E.A.R. runs with most of the settings turned up... it just slows down bigtime when there's a lot of stuff going on (mutiple grenade explosions and dust from bullet spray with particle effects are the worst)

They're having warehouse problems right now. They implemented some upgraded system that didn't work quite as well as expected.

 for Connect3D. I have the exact same card you ordered and besides the factg it doesn't overclock (none of the X800XLs do) it's a great card.

I still wanna try out the 6800GT though

X800XL is a decent card. If you're in the area of best bang for your buck its a good card.
