The other day I upgraded my PC a bit, and amongst the parts I bought a Connect3D X1800XL. Unfortunately when I came to install drivers for it in windows it is not detected at all. I have got round this issue temporarily by choosing the inf files manually from the CD it came with, however, this is far from ideal as I would like to be able to use the latest Catalyst drivers as and when they are released.

Can anyone help with this - is it a known problem? Or am i doomed to take it back? The main part of my PC is as follows:

Abit AN8 Ultra (nForce 4)
AMD 64 3500+ (Venice)
Connect3D X1800XL
1.5Gb Corsair XMS PC3200
WD 250JB SATA
(Zalman 400W PSU)

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

if you can see anything on the screen it's being detected...;)

See what the dude below me is saying tho...

(on a completely unrelated point, and i stress it's nothing to do with this problem, that PSU is kinda anaemic for that rig, unless it has massively meaty voltage rails i would very seriously think about stepping up to good 450/480w...)

The drivers on that cd are meant for the X1800 (or X1000 series in general). They actually have many changes/fixes that aren't on the drivers on the website. Until at least next months release, you should be using the ones on the cd.

Thanks for the info... guess I'll wait for the new drivers then.

Cheers for the advice on the PSU, i have a 550W one spare so I might swap over.... went for that one for the low noise levels.

Another question for the board. Is there a known error with the drivers for these cards at the moment? - Concerning idle/load fan speeds? If i put the door on my case and leave the card on the desktop the period for which the fan spins up increases quickly, until after a while it never goes off.... See times (from an overnight cool):

Computer boots - 10:02:24
Low fan - (02:15)
High Fan - 10:04:39 -> 10:06:16 (01:37)
Low fan - (00:58)
High fan - 10:07:14 -> 10:11:09 (03:55)
Low fan - (00:51)
High fan - 10:12:00 -> 10:30:00 (still going) (28:00 ->)

I can't get the drivers on the provided CD to install properly (chucks an error -> manual install - i.e. driver only), so i can't monitor temps or see anything else such as fan speeds. This is really getting on my nerves as for £290 (GBP) i'd expect not to have gained a windfarm in my computer at idle!

Anyone point me in the direction for the latest x1000 series drivers, a temperature monitoring utility that will work with this card, and an article/thread to comfort me that this will be fixed.

Thanks
