Connect using 802.11n

So I picked up a new Xbox 360 4gb not to long ago and noticed it is connected to my Linksys WRT310N at 802.11g settings. Is there something that I need to do in my Xbox or router to recognize it as 802.11n?

I'm also unable to get the NAT to open so I'm wondering if this has anything to do with it.

Sorry bud, it's G, no N. You can get N with the wireless adapter that you'd have to buy for the older versions of the 360, but the slim natively doesn't support N. I thought it was weird too.

Where are you seeing that it's connected via "g" and not "n"? On the router or the console?

Your NAT shouldn't have anything to do with it, although it should be fairly easy to get your NAT open using the following link:

You've got it backwards, astrosfan. The old wireless adapter only did "g", the new slim design with the wireless built-in is "N". I'm staring at my Reach 360 S right now and it's connected via "N".

I figured out what to do to get it to connect through N rather than G. I had to go in and change the wireless security from WEP to WPA. I'm still having problems getting the NAT open though.

Set your IP to static so it will never change, then forward the 4 ports to that IP. Given your brand of router, you may have to reboot the router for the changes to take effect.

Yes, I messed it up. The slim won't be able to use the 5 ghz band of N, only the 2.4 ghz. That's what crossed my mind as something not working on the slim.

Funny I could be wrong but I don't remember every setting up any port forwarding on my router when I was using my Xbox with Xbox Live. And as far as I remember I was using Tomato, like I am now, with no UPnP set up. Course it's been a long time since I've used my Xbox so I could be wrong. Thanks for the link blurredvision, will forward those ports when I set it up again.

You shouldn't actually have to configure anything on your router to get Xbox Live working on your Xbox 360. It should just work. You might try resetting your router's settings to the factory defaults and see if that solves the problem.

You shouldn't have to, but sometimes you need to forward ports to open up your NAT for better connections. In the early days of the 360, my brother and I always had issues connecting to each other in games like Uno. Once I got more network savvy and learned some things, I got us to open these ports and we haven't had problems since. Ideally, if you don't see that anything is wrong with your connection, then don't worry about it. But if you're having problems connecting to someone specifically, then the ports is the first thing I'd check out.

Just DMZ the IP you assign to the Xbox.
