Question Connect USB drive to gateway via ethernet to USB adapter

I have a Netgear CM500100NAS modem/router from Comcast. I want to add a USB drive on the network but Comcast disables the USB ports on the gateway. If I was to connect the drive to the Ethernet port on the router via an Ethernet to USB adapter would that work? I'd have to use a female to female adapter between the drive and the Ethernet/USB adapter so the Full connection would be Gateway Enet --> USB --> adapter <--USB <-- Drive.
Thanks

Thanks. After I posted this I realized that the disk would also need power and I’m sure that the gateway does not have PoE. Maybe I’ll look at buying my own gateway with powered USB ports. According to Comcast the USB ports on a personal gateway, not theirs, will work. Hmmm, I wonder if there’s anyway to hack a Comcast gateway to enable the USB ports.

The problem with many of these usb drive connectors is that they are either slow, buggy, or both. The best bet is to get a nas unit that has a usb port on it and you can share the drive that way. I have found that to be 100x more reliable.

A Thingie like this has a USB port. Configured it as a switch with a static IP and use the USB port.

You can also use its Wireless to get more WIFI power.
