connect two computers over the internet

I want to connect two standalone PCs on a broadband connection DSL and Cable over the internet. Is it possible? how do i do it? are there security issues? I may use it to play games with my brother. thanks!!!

Yes, in fact, its exactly what the internet was created for 🙂

I'm sure you'll get plenty of FAQ links from someone, but here's the quick and dirty. Each computer will have a unique address that you can find out and use to talk directly to each other. Most multiplayer games today though allow easier ways to find people and connect through a server.

okay. So I just punch in his IP address and is that supposed to be it? I did notice some games to have clients that allow linking to a server to play games. but i also thought that by connecting two pcs over the internet, i can say use his shared CD or HDD? is that possible? kinda like "direct connect" in win XP which allows me to use his drive?

that gets much more complicated. you can look into vpn, but thats probably more work than yo uneed. if you just want info form him, then look into ftp.

well yeah, i was looking into VPN, but am a noob to it. I was hoping to run a CD that he has or watch a DivX film on the fly, is that possible?
