I have Cable Modem at home and sometimes bring my laptop home from work and need to connect to the internet.

I connect the netwrok cable from my home computer and connect into the laptop...but that does not work.

I do not have router, hub or anything like that just a Cable Modem.

Any ideas???

If network at work also runs DHCP then in most cases powering off the cable modem and power it back on with it connected to the laptop. If your company is using a static network you will need to configure the NIC to do DHCP at home and return then switch it back to Static when you are at work. How to do it depends on the OS you are running. WinXP is simple. Right click on My Network Place select Properties highlight the definition of the NIC you will be using, usually Local Area Connection, right click, select properties, find the "Internet Protocol(TCP/IP)" entry, select properties, click on Obtain an IP address automaticall and when it appears click on Obtain DNS server address automatically. You wil notice a new tab next to the General tab. This has the static address information, so if you don't have a DHCP server at work the request sent by WinXP will time out and the alternative static address will be used.
