Connect great with DMZ, horrible without

I have a Linksys BEFSR41 Router, and my connection through the router to the internet is great - but only when I'm the DMZ host. When I'm not, I get random AIM, IRC, and WoW disconnects. There are other users connected to the router who have noted the exact same issues and solution. My problem is that only one IP can be the DMZ host, and port-forwarding sends all incoming packets to a specific IP. Is there any fix for this? I know the BEFSR41 is a very popular router, surely someone else has had this same problem.

I have no solution for you, but if you discover one, please let me know. My brother has that router, and he has constant disconnection problems. I have tried my best to find a solution and it seems that none exists.

If you figure it out, he'll love you forever.

Hey, the linksys tech told me to download the latest firmware so that I can enable port triggering. Apparently it's just like forwarding, but for multiple connections, WOOT! I'll let you know how it turns out.

Let me know how it goes.

I almost bought a Linksys router, but instead installed Smoothwall on a Pentium 2 system I had sitting in a closet. I'm starting to feel glad that I did... there seem to be a lot of issues with this Linksys router. I want to get my brother's PC working. He keeps getting disconnected randomly, and he just had his cable modem replaced. We'll see if that fixes anything. I have seen a lot of posts requesting help with random disconnects, so it would appear that this router has some issues.

Smoothwall has no issues. I just finished a LAN party last weekend with 10 people and everyone had a flawless connection to the internet through my Smoothwall. I have been very happy with it. It's too bad that the mainstream solutions Linksys is offering have some issues. They are well-designed as far as ease of use and speed. Just these pesky disconnect problems that mess it all up.
