Trying to show a HTPC PoC using an older tv that only has svideo or RCA inputs. The computer in question has DVI and HDMI . what would be the best way to connect the PC to the TV if buying a new TV is out of the question for now? xbox connects to it and looks good, but Id like to use the PC there instead. I tried connecting to the svideo in the past, but the desktop image becomes very tiny anf fuzzy.

keep in mind with s-video and/or rca inputs to the tv. Your screen resolution will have to be around 800x600 and reading text will still be horrible.

At least that was always my experience with connecting my laptops to tvs with only rca or s-video

i have some cards with svideo and experienced the terrible text issue - I was thinking it was an issue with svideo and was wondering if there was a way to go straight to RCA . i might just put up with the bad text for now :) the picture itself still looks good though

Due to the limited resolutions of those connections the text from a computer to a older crt style TV is always going to be blurry. Composite (RCA) is even lower in resolution than svideo.

so if i just use the svideo and then stay in an HTPC interface like WMC all the time ANd stay in 800x600, that may just be the best compromise then?

I would say so until a new tv upgrade can be afforded or justified.

I don't know how big and clunky the wmc interface will be at 800x600 though. may be ok as it was probably designed for that in the beginning.
